We were running as fast as our legs would carry us with the anticipation of getting to Hotel Flex, where Chase was. I lagged behind slightly since I couldnt match Mr Heralds pace but he held my hand tightly, as we both continued our journey to discover our pasts. He was all I needed; he would keep me safe throughout this adventure. Excitement was rushing through me, drowning all my worries and fears, causing my heart to feel something Ive never felt before. I didnt even care at the moment if Asha was right behind on our tail, I just knew my goal, and nothing was going to stop me now. I felt like I was a person again, for a moment I forgot the fact I would find out the truth, no matter what it was. I was just too, happy. We were now sprinting down the street, our footsteps echoing loudly as we were only a block or so away now from Piccadilly. The tension was building more and more until I thought I was going to explode. I knew Mr Herald felt the same way, because his eyes lit up, I could see we were both in ecstasy. We didnt even stop our pursuit as the cars beeped ferociously as us. We then paused to catch our breaths. Lungs, erratic. Then, all the things I ignored, rushed back to me. What are we doing? Whats going to happen? I looked up and saw the large building, with hundreds of sparkling glass windows and intimidating neon lights. Were here.
We walked in cautiously as we headed towards the desk on the other side of the large room. A woman with the most atrocious make up stared blankly ahead of her, as if her mind was so empty that she didnt even realise we were there. She stood behind the rich oak table as emotionless as an ugly doll. Even so, I went up to her and asked for the room number of Mr Chase Matthews. She stated in a monotone voice as if she had a dictaphone in her mouth, that she was not allowed to give us the information.
I couldnt believe what happened next. One moment Mr Herald was standing beside me, the next he had lunged forward, swiping the poor woman in the nose, making her collapse off the chair, hitting her head on the polished laminated flooring. I was astounded, I never believed Mr Herald could do such a thing. I thought him to be a dignified gentleman. My lovely father figure was now flawed, tainted, but no ones perfect, though thats no excuse. I chose then just to keep silent, not trusting my voice as he went to check Chases room on the computer. We finally arrived at his room, 42. We knocked on the door and there was no reply, so Mr Herald attempted to knock down the door, with no avail. Thankfully I had borrowed the receptionists key card and swiped the door open with complete ease. We then entered.
The room was beautiful with expensive, modern decor since it looked like a showroom. We then searched for another persons presence but found none. We thought that there was no one currently in, but I stopped at a locked door which couldve led to a bedroom. I told Mr Herald and he threw his body against the door, sending him staggering in, the hinges flying off. A shadow jumped up, startled with our arrival. He started panicking, brandishing a baseball bat in defence. I assured him however that we didnt want to harm him and we just wanted information. He then relaxed slightly, though he did tense when Mr Herald told him that Asha sent us, and I had to clarify that it was 001. Chase invited us in, even though we were already comfortably inside.
The light was now on and we all sat nervously in his bedroom, and I could now see his features clearly. He was about my age, with black hair and toned physique. He voice was full of authority as he begun to tell us what we wanted to know, how it all started, the lab.
The military had created the modified humans, but after the lab had closed down, they
re-homed the experiments in a attempt to protect them, and their origins. But now, a new lab has been made, and modified humans have begun again to be created, and the extermination of the originals has arisen in the hope of preventing the secret to get out. I just had to interrupt to ask what the secret was.
He replied that they were altering certain human chromosomes in the DNA as well as inserting animal genes. This is in the attempt to perfect the modified human to create the perfect race, which will eventually take over. He also told us that, even though he has been cowardly hiding away from this knowledge, he will help us destroy the lab. He believed that we should do this for justice and also this could be the opportunity for us to find out the information we seek.
He was then forced to pause as Asha stormed into the room. The fiery atmosphere she brought in from her anger, wasnt comfortable. She was clearly furious because we left her behind. Probably more furious then she needed to be as she pointed at me and shrieked about How could I bring Mr Herald along?
I didnt know what to say...
